Wired's Jargonwatch is always hellacious fun.

Artificial Neuroscience

Information at Futurewire.

A trillion calculations per second = nearly equaling a human's brain? Bah.

You know, I'm getting the feel from this article that most scientists haven't actually seen Blade Runner.

Must find a use for this somewhere.
Posted on 03.14.05 by Widge @ 12:22 am

Simply because it's too cool an idea not to screw around with. In fact, I think I know who, where and when to have use it, but I can't say more without giving something away.

A solution to a problem I hadn't considered.
Posted on 03.12.05 by Widge @ 2:35 pm

Combine a dehumidifier and a water purifier and you've got a solution to where drinking water comes from in the majority of DBM's world. Now I'm armed in case somebody asks me.

Lord knows I've gotten weirder questions.

And how do implants and Heavy Tech work?
Posted on 03.09.05 by Widge @ 1:21 am

Prospective DBMers ask me:

"Dude, are you aware your fly is open?"

Then after an awkward moment and a zip up, they ask me:

"What the hell is Heavy Tech, anyway?"

Well, one way to think about it is to be able to handle a lot more variables. A lot more.

Wireless networking in the Atlantic Union
Posted on 03.07.05 by Widge @ 10:58 pm

Engadget has just posted a bit about the new wireless networking standard, 802.11s, the nature of which is exactly how the networking in the Atlantic Union (and elsewhere) works in DBM.

There's something just terribly unnerving and cool about seeing this bit of a SF story you're working on suddenly announced for 2008.

Bloody hell.
Posted on 03.06.05 by Widge @ 7:26 pm

What it's going to take me several dozen novels, short stories and screenplays to work through, Key 23's post wraps up and puts a bow on it. The concept of "personal armageddon" is something I've dealt with, although I also like the idea of the "small apocalypse" turning out to have larger ripples in reality, which is best reflected in Alan Moore's From Hell IMO.

Don't ask.

This is my latest book. Short stories written especially for you, or at least someone who reminded me a lot of you at the time.

Read it for free here. Or if you like paper, buy it here.

Then tell all your friends about it. Or all your enemies. I'm not particular either way.
