Never Underestimate the Power of Stumbleupon
Posted on 10.17.07 by Widge @ 11:30 am

Have seen a few posts here and there about getting traffic via Stumbleupon and thought, "Oh, yeah, Stumbleupon. I remember that." I joined about two years ago and have given the thumbs up to over 400 bits.

So I went and added Daily Kicksplode to my thumbs up bits, stating up front that it was one of mine.

Boom. 1200 visitors arrived. Nice.

Oh, If We Only Had a Real Comic Book Site
Posted on 10.15.07 by Widge @ 3:46 pm

I think it's amusing how Heidi on The Beat mentions that the head of Wildstorm took a walk and nobody even bothered to talk about it.

Man, a website that followed the comics industry and did so with a view towards A) actually covering the industry beyond just the latest title gossip, 2) not kissing the asses of the Big Two and III) giving the industry some tough love? What a great idea. Oh, wait we tried that.

Anyway, I would love to do something like that on Needcoffee. I don't have the time to do it myself, though. If anybody would like to play in that sandbox, let me know.

Widgett.com At Last
Posted on 10.04.07 by Widge @ 2:49 am

Widgett.com now redirects here to WidgettWalls.com.

Bear in mind, children, this is a name that I created for myself as a joke about seventeen years ago.

Jokes have long life spans, so create them with care.

That's all I'm trying to say here.

Radiohead Blowing People's Minds With Variable Pricing
Posted on 10.03.07 by Widge @ 3:20 am

Which is good, because they haven't blown my mind with music in a long time.

Here's the really scary bit from this Time article:

"This feels like yet another death knell," emailed an A&R executive at a major European label. "If the best band in the world doesn't want a part of us, I'm not sure what's left for this business."

Yes, hurrah for realizing you're a red shirt on the Titanic there, buddy. But what gives me pause is this notion that Radiohead is the best band in the world.

If that is the case, then it's yet another death knell for music in general.

Good thing I'm not bitter.

Don't ask.

This is my latest book. Short stories written especially for you, or at least someone who reminded me a lot of you at the time.

Read it for free here. Or if you like paper, buy it here.

Then tell all your friends about it. Or all your enemies. I'm not particular either way.
