Man, who does this guy sound like?
Posted on 03.27.05 by Widge @ 10:22 pm

Mini-interview from Wired, 10/2004.

Must write faster. A lot faster.

P.S. Yeah, it takes me a while to get through my magazines. What of it?

Free idea.
Posted on 03.25.05 by Widge @ 11:05 am

Article from Boing Boing on Matrix Online.

Create a company that specializes in providing players like these 20 mentioned who are A) not only game-savvy all around but 2) good at improv so they can further the game and make play better for everyone. Then get contracts from these MMORPGs to go and work the walls on that shit.

Would you be able to do it full time? Not yet, but isn't the point just to have a cool job like that?

Just think of your resume if you're an actor. "Well, last summer I was Laertes in 'Hamlet in the Park,' while I also logged four hundred hours as Muad'Dib in Dune Online."

And, like Broadway, when players start to drift away, you bring them back with a big name. "This week in Heroes Megaverse Online, Sam Jackson will be playing the role of Badass Supervillain Who Will Kill You Dead."

There you go. Free idea. Just remember me when you're rich and famous.

"Crazy, am I? We'll see whether I'm crazy or not."

No zen for me.
Posted on 03.19.05 by Widge @ 6:02 am

Found this via Screenhead.

Thought, "Hey, this could be soothing."

I started messing with the rake, then went to go get a drink and came back and found this:

Zen Garden

I just can't win, I guess.

"Smart Paper?"

Link to Gizmodo.

That was Cat's reaction. And essentially…yes. Which means I must write faster because every single damn day the future catches up to me a little more.

Artificial Neuroscience
Posted on 03.19.05 by Widge @ 2:06 am

Information at Futurewire.

A trillion calculations per second = nearly equaling a human's brain? Bah.

You know, I'm getting the feel from this article that most scientists haven't actually seen Blade Runner.

Elmo has a history with the law.
Posted on 03.17.05 by Widge @ 10:16 pm

Caught this about a bomb scare involving Elmo on Boing Boing.

One of the many things I do instead of having a life is maintain a bigass text file of quotes I like, so I can confound people with them in my e-mail sigs. So I've pulled out one that shows Elmo has a history of keeping John Law on his toes. In fact, he has from the very beginning, it seems:

"I was always sending batteries and headless dolls in the mail. I think that's what caught their attention."
–Mark Johnson-Williams, 'Tickle-Me Elmo' doll designer, on why authorities had considered him a potential Unabomber suspect, 1997

Got that out of my system.

Read a story that gives you the willies, write a story to exorcise the willies.

As I always say, it's cheaper than therapy.

Don't ask.

This is my latest book. Short stories written especially for you, or at least someone who reminded me a lot of you at the time.

Read it for free here. Or if you like paper, buy it here.

Then tell all your friends about it. Or all your enemies. I'm not particular either way.
